Team Austin Bice wins 2011 title with 230 members OCEANSIDE, November 29, 2011 - Friends and family of Austin Bice banded together in a tribute that was so successfl Team Austin Bice easily won the team competition for the 2011 Pacific Marine Credit Union O'side Turkey Trot. Final figures show that Team Austin Bice had 230 members. In second place was two-time team champion Cameron Fitness (131), followed by Active Mobility (95), Lighter Leader (54), and Team MiraCosta (44). The largest five teams in this year's race will receive $100 certificates to 333 Pacific Steak & Seafood. The 230 members of Team Austin Bice ran in memory of Bice, a 22-year-old senior at San Diego State who went to Madrid, Spain to study international business in January. Earlier this year, his body was found in Madrid's shallow Manzanares River after an extensive search. A football player at Torrey Pines High School and SDSU, Bice was passionate about his life and friends, the two of which came together annually for him at the Pacific Marine Credit Union O'side Turkey Trot. The likeable Bice clearly left an impression on his friends. "I'm running in memory of my dear friend Austin Bice who passed away unexpectedly last March while studying abroad in Spain," said Shawn Krause of San Diego. "He loved traditions and participated in the Turkey Trot annually. I'm honored to run in memory of him." Cameron Fitness which had won the largest team title for two straight years, nearly matched its participation figures for 2010, but, in the end, couldn't overcome the tide of tributes for Austin Bice.
As a tribute to a beloved family member and friend, 230 O'side Turkey Trot participants won the 2011 team title.
