Why do you run the O'side Turkey Trot?
Some replies from 2011 participants:
I recently returned home from Afghanistan to my beautiful wife and eight month old baby. We thought the Turkey Trot would be a great way to bond as a family. Although my wife and I have been participating in 5K's since we were married five years ago, this will be our first 5K with our son. We hope to pass on our love for exercise and the outdoors to him.
I will be running this race for who I run all my races....for my best friend Navy SEAL Denis Christian Miranda who passed away fighting for our freedom in Afghanistan 9-21-10. We grew up four houses away from eachother and at 17 joined the Navy together. I miss him very much and honor him by racing.

In July I weighed over 300 lbs. I was tired of being the fattest person in the room where ever I went. It was time for a change! Since mid-July I have lost over 50lbs and by race day (Thanksgiving) I plan on adding an additional 25-30lbs to that total. I have also completed a couch to 5k running program and am now training for my first 10k. My family decided to vacation in Oceanside for Thanksgiving so I decided to find a turkey trot to join in. I don't plan on winning or even competing, but I feel great about running for a good cause and doing something I can be proud of. Wish me luck!
